Thinking of joining nippers? Well don’t wait any longer! Getting involved with the Port Macquarie SLSC is a great way to meet new friends and interact with the community. "The youth of today are the future of Surf Life Saving tomorrow". It is an important junior movement within Surf Lifesaving which encourages confidence, learning and having fun whilst being in a safe and controlled environment. The nippers pathway teaches valuable life skills and safety knowledge of the beach which will prepare them for the next stage of the Lifesaving movement. Being involved in nippers is good for children to build self confidence, personal development and work within a team environment. Many feel a sense of accomplishment as they complete their swim or beach race and can work toward new challenges each week. The program also mentors our youth into the cadets program before undertaking the Bronze Medallion and other senior awards.
Across Australia, there are over 58,500 nippers. That is 40% of the total membership within Surf Lifesaving.
Our nipper season generally runs from October through until the end of March. Training days are held on a Sunday morning 8:30am-10:30am and include events such as beach races, swim race, board paddling, flags, wade relays and ironperson. Throughout the season the club will advise of Club Championship days for all kids to compete against their fellow nipper friends of corresponding age groups. These days show how much progress a nipper has made and also let their inner competitive side show as they battle it out for club points! Please see the nipper calendar for further information on these days.
